Short Fri report: Temp is 50, cloudy, very high winds have kept the quad shut all day so far = no skiing for me. The rain is due soon. 'nuff said.
You are not missing anything today and the weekend is iffy at best. Sorry I couldn't be more positive.

Jon

First Warning Forecast

It will be windy and mild with rain developing this afternoon and lasting into the evening. Highs will be near 50.

Over the weekend things get interesting. We'll have sunshine on Saturday with highs in the 30's. By Sunday, a storm on the East Coast will have to be watched. If it tracks close enough, there is the potential for snow.

Two top 5's in a row!! Absolutely another great day of sun tan skiing. An early mix of snow & rain this am really softened things up as overnight temps failed to reach freezing. The clouds broke around 10 am and the sun came out in a cloudless sky as temps shot right up to 50. The mtn was empty and surface conditions became spring-like fast. All trails were slow and easy as the snow got sticky and clumpy but a hot wax job helped solve that problem. Claire's was a delight and even Apurna softened a bit tho still mostly hard and fast but with some thin spots developing. This weekend is the Latitude 42 North competition and band stands have been erected on the front deck with lots of new rails / jumps and the 25 ft high quarter pipe built in the terrain park. There will be fireworks again Sat night. On March 8 we move clocks ahead 1 hr and the mtn will keep the quad running until 5pm on Saturdays thereafter. Rain will arrive tomorrow pm and lead into an iffy weather weekend that could become nasty. The weathermen are tracking a storm system for Sun into Monday that could bring snow. Snowmaking I am told has been terminated for the season.

WOW! One of the top 5 best weather days of the season. Even tho it started out in single digits a brilliant cloudless sunny sky brought temps up quickly into the 30's and now 40 with no wind at all. Sun lotion was a must today! Grooming was once again excellent and the snow surface softened enough to make for some very sweet skiing on "ego" snow. Every trail was very nice except Claire's which once again had a shine to it but I think that this pm it too should be quite nice. The local radio forecast calls for some sleet and freezing rain tomorrow before temps climb into the 40's again so it could be quite messy and Friday is not looking much better. Crowds were very light today even with the Wed ski bum bus from NJ. The quad was running at 90% and no "D" or "F" running or needed. My trails of choice today : Cliff / Racer's again.
GM is fine after thyroid surgery and was standing near the quad today greeting people and chomping at the bit to ski but he must wait a week or two.
Don't forget to post any news or info on the blog site which protects your email from being shown even tho you have to use it to register on the site. http://hunterskiscene.blogspot.com/ This could prove to be very interesting once a few of you get used to it..........
Ski on,

Following just received from Betty & George:
Hi Jon, Thanks for the good wishes. Yesterday was a very long day but we got through it and everything looks good. Unfortunately GM won't be able to ski for a week or two (he says one, surgeon says two). Congratulations on your new blog - we've already visited but haven't contributed yet.
Hello skiers,
Another cold day of nice skiing with plenty of sun, less wind and very light crowds. The temp hit 10 overnight but rebounded to the low 20's although single digits at the summit. Surface conditions remained excellent with great visibility today. Wind was still a factor on the west side and Huega. Wayout via Whitecloud was very cold but smooth skiing and Claire's had more more shine than snow which made it undesireable and I question why it was even open. The ride up "Z" was very cold and windy - better to stay on the front of the mtn. All front trails were equally good with Cliff / Racer's still my run of choice. Both "D" and "F" were shut yesterday and today. The quad was running slow again and the high wind warning signs were posted in the ticket windows.
GM had surgery in the city yesterday around his thyroid gland so if any of you have updated info please let me know or post it to my BLOG site: http://hunterskiscene.blogspot.com/ We all wish him well.
Tomorrow is shaping up to be the best weather day of the week before some messy stuff comes in Thurs - Fri and the forecasts are calling for a blustery weekend.
Ski ya,
Jon

It snowed all day Sunday but with temps at 36 not much was sticking so only about 5" accumulated. The temps dropped into the low teens last night with very strong winds which dried out the snow and blew it around so instead of the expected ice today we had surprising excellent surface conditions. There were more clouds than sun but the winds were howling at 20-30 mph with higher gusts and temps only 19-21 so the quad speed was cut down to only 65%. It was very cold but skiing was very sweet (except the west which was very wind blown & not worth it) due excellent grooming and fresh powder blowing all over the place. The moisture from yesterday's snow softened the base so there was no ice under the surface snow - skiing was silent as opposed to the usual noisy scraping sound. Cliff & Hgate to Racer's or Ike / Gunhill was primo and the eastside trails were also quite nice down thru Kennedy. It will be a cold windy week so the base will be preserved. I saw snowmakers today hauling hoses down the mtn so do not expect much if any new snow from guns this season.....signs of spring I guess.

Jon
