HUNTER DECEMBER 19

Hello Hunter fans,
The key elements for skiing & riding all came together today to rate it a “10”. I have waited a long time to start my season on the slopes due flat light & limited terrain but today was it.
The weather – brilliant blue sunny sky, no wind, moderate temps and excellent surface conditions – made a consensus opinion from those that have been out many days, the best day so far this season.
There was an inversion this morning with the summit temp 10 degrees  warmer 22 than the base at 12. Temps quickly warmed up to 33 now.
The grooming was very good on most front side slopes with the main line being the best. Racer’s was closed and Minya was variable ungroomed with soft whale humps and some porcelain on Lower Cross. Other than that, the rest of the mountain was in great shape. I did not go west as it was still too dark. Cliff was a bit thin with some rocks on skier’s left. Huega, Ike & Gunhill were excellent as was Eside Dr.
The Flyer was having some issues late morning with a few stoppages. There was no D or F running but not needed as one could ski onto the Flyer without a wait.
I drove over to the base of the new Hunter North 6 person lift which was still being fitted with safety bars before the scheduled weight test could commence. That was to be done today / tomorrow. It was quite impressive to see.
The top terminal is situated just below the belt, partially narrowing the entrance to Wayout at the intersection of White cloud and the Belt makes a  slight turn to skier’s right around it where they blew out part of the rock ledge.
Heavy rain unfortunately is expected late Thursday and through Friday night before cold air comes in again on Saturday night and you all know what that will do to conditions.
Happy Holidays,
Jon
