Hunter News 11/25

Hi All,
Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving.
Hunter finally turned on the guns Saturday morning as a wicked cold front came through Friday night and left us with a thin white coating of sleet and snow which remains on the frozen ground. Salt spreaders were out last night. We are experiencing lake effect flurries today with temps staying just below freezing. One can see from the road coming into Hunter from Tannersville that Hellgate is well cvovered already. Expect a possible soft opening and some poaching mid-week but the official opening day will most likely be next Saturday December 1st. Expect cold snow making weather all week  (see 7 day NWS forecast below).
Get your skis and bodies in shape!
Ski ya,
Jon

Hunter - Snow making up-date Nov 14

Hi All,
Once again the weather is not cooperating. Even though we have cold nights the temps do not stay cold long enough and there are a few inversions predicted in the near term.  Best estimate (subject to change of course) for snow making to commence is the day after Thanksgiving with a full opening around December 1 (soft opening may be earlier). There were a few new snow guns added to the mid-station area including a powerful fan jet and I hear Claire's may also have some new guns on skier's left along side the old "Z" lift.
Other news: The KMC Hotel's restaurant manager, John Jones, is gone and his replacement is slated to start tomorrow.
Many of the pot holes in the parking lot have been filled in and I think you all will like the new deck arrangement on the slope side of the lodge.
Here is a link to a recent MSNBC / Today Show segment on Tannersville:
Reminder: The ULLR Fest behind Keith's "The Pro Ski & Ride" shop on Main St. is this Friday November 16 at 7 pm. It is suggested that you bring your own grog and a lawn chair if sitting is preferred. One pair of skis will be burned as a sacrifice to the ski Gods in a camp-fire like setting. There will be music, food and refreshments.
Trusting you are all getting on well after the super storm and looking forward to winter sports.
Gas is $3.79 / gal and plentiful.
Ski ya soon,
Jon

Hunter snow update Nov 7

Hi All,
Tonight's storm according to RIP97 is expected to bring 1 - 3 inches of wet snow (a nuisance) as we expect to be in the far northwest corner of it. It will be gone by the weekend as warmer temps (low 50's) roll in.
The good news (spoke to mgmt today) is that the extended forecast for November calls for cold weather and Hunter expects to be open for skiing (limited) Thanksgiving week. The equipment will be tested this week.  This would be the first season in 3 that we will be open before December. The mtn tops are all frosted white!
Better get your skis and bodies tuned up!

Gas here is plentiful & no lines @ $3.79/ gal. - cheaper than in Catskill or Albany - how about that!
Ski ya real soon,
Jon

Hunter News Flash Oct 11

Hi All,
Further to my earlier message please see attached photos of the fill being deposited on the west side as well as all the Z-lift chairs laying on the ground. Now here's the big news - although some of the fill is coming from the tubing park berm which is being lowered and extended futher back into the parking lot, most of it is coming from the half pipe which is being permanently removed due to lack of use and for more space in the terrain park for other obstacles.

Z-lift chairs are for sale @ $250 each to benefit the Hunter Racing Foundation.
Always trying to stay on top of things.  http://hunterskiscene.blogspot.com/

Hunter News Oct 11

Hi All,
As we head into the weekend with season passholder day on Sat (coinciding with the wine and beer fest) we will be greeted with some welcome cold weather (see below forecast). The tree colors are turning brown and bare as rain and wind have taken their toll on the fall leaves. Also don't forget that season pass / locker prices increase after Oct 15.

Once in a while mgmt pays attention to us.  I am pleased to report that for the past few days two huge mining trucks have been shuttling dirt from the tubing park berm back to the west side to help fill in the dip leading up to the quad lift. Thank you David S.

There was a water main break on Pine Lane on Tuesday so those of you in Colonel's Chair who were affected should run the water from an outside spiget until it is clear.

I can almost sense the snow coming early this year! Got to think positve!
Jon

Forecast:
It will be breezy and cool today with in and out sunshine and highs in the mid 50's.
A cool front will arrive tonight and as it passes, there will be a few showers into the early morning hours tomorrow.
A reinforcing shot of cooler air will move in behind the front with a gusty northwest wind.  This will keep temperatures in the lower to mid 50's on Friday despite increasing sunshine.
Widespread frost is likely on Saturday morning with many places starting out in the 20's.  Then, with mostly sunny skies in the afternoon it will rebound to the mid 50's.
It will warm up to the 60's on Sunday although scattered showers will be back in the forecast as well.

Hope you all enjoy your spring - once it starts anyway! Had great snow making weather the past 3 nights - to bad it wasn't February.
