Hunter January 7

Hi All,
Hunter officially changed hands at 8 am this morning – the end of a long chapter in many of our lives.  New ownership is now in charge but don’t ask me what will change or when as I do not have any answers yet.
Today was just another day in paradise. Conditions mirrored those of yesterday except Wayout was groomed and open as was Racer’s. Still no snow yet on Gunhill. Other than that , excellent grooming and perfect weather. It started out at 15 but now 40 and very sunny. Unfortunately the weekend looks like a rain event.
I have to correct something from yesterday: The happy hours at the main bar are from 3 to 5pm weekdays only.
The Hunter Brewery is now under new management as well with Mike Tancredi  (ex Tequillas) running the show. They are finally proceeding with securing a brewing license.
Ski on...........
Jon

Hunter skiing Jan 6

Hello Hunter fans.
Today was the latest first day ever for me, in this my 40th season pass year at Hunter, and it was GREAT!
Definitely worth waiting for after the miserable slow start we had to winter. Brilliant sun, no wind with temps that went from a low of 7 to 37 now.
Every open front side trail was well covered from massive snow making & groomed to perfection: HBK, Cliff/Ike, Eside/Milky, Minya/LowerCross & the Belt. The top of Racers was closed due to glazing but the lower section was accessible via Ike. Nice powdery conditions all over. There was a decent crowd but not enough for a line and no need for “F” or ”D”.
Wayout was closed and looked ungroomed & glazed.
The groomers were out forming the chutes in the tubing park which was well covered too.
The rest of the week is looking good but not the weekend unfortunately per NWS forecast below.
The main bar in the lodge now has happy hour prices on limited beers, wine & well drinks from 4 – 7.
Happy Trails,
Jon

Hunter to re-open December 26??

Hi All,
Welcome to the winter that isn’t.  Hunter announced late yesterday that they will next be open December 26  - weather permitting of course. Personally, I have my doubts.
Even though there will be some colder weather this Friday night through Sunday with some lake effect snow flurries it warms up again next week (high 30’s and 40’s) with some rain forecast for most of the weekdays.
Christmas Eve it is supposed to be around 55 here.
Pray for snow and have a very Merry Christmas.
Jon

Hunter Brewery Event

Hello Hunter friends,
FYI - The Hunter Brewery has scheduled a 1960’s cover band “Time Machine” to play next Saturday night October 3rd at 9 - 12 pm.
I heard them play a week ago and they are excellent – worth the late night out – you will know and enjoy all the songs - bring your dancing shoes and get in some good pre-ski season exercise!
Ski ya soon,
Jon

Pass this on to your friends – the more the merrier!

Hunter Season Passholder Party

Hi All,
Hope you enjoyed the extended hot & humid summer weather – I didn’t.
Hunter is holding the season passholder party this Saturday Sept 19 at 1 pm and are requesting an RSVP. It is also pro day. See attached link to their official announcement.

There was new automated snow making added for this season in several areas.
Wayout has been widened and re-graded to be designated a blue square in order to allow intermediate skiers and boarders on the west side. Mgmt thought the west side lift was under utilized.
Personally, I am not too thrilled about this.
The colors are slowly starting to change to a fall look.
Ski ya,
Jon

Hunter June 1 - traffic alert

Hi All,
Hope your spring (more like summer) is going well.
For those of you who have not been up here lately and are planning to attend Mountain Jam or the Country Festival this or next Wed thru Fri and plan to leave Hunter on either Sunday or Monday morning after the festivals be advised of the following situation:  There is major bridge and road construction in Palenville on Rt 23A which has created 2 one lane only openings within a half mile of each other controlled by traffic lights which is creating delays on a normal basis and one can only imagine how long it would take to get through there with festival traffic.  I would therefore suggest alternate routes which could include Thruway exit #19 to Rt 28 to Phoenicia and #214 to Hunter or exit #21 Catskill and Rt 23 to Windham and #296 to Hunter. For those of you familiar with the back roads consider Platt Cove Mountain Rd (County Rt 16) from either exit 19 or 20. This is a scary road at best and not for the faint of heart. There may also be State Police at exit 19 and or 20 directing traffic to alternate routes.

Each festival is expected to draw 15-20,000 visitors. Hunter Highlands and Liftside Condo owners may need special passes. Contact your owners association for details.
On another subject, the Bagel Shop has re-opened under new management – for how long, who knows?
Be safe,
Jon
