Hunter skiing Day #1 12/10

Wow - finally open!
The rain on top of the snow last night froze but a good grooming job at 6 am today broke up the crust and exposed a packed damp powder surface. You absolutely could not venture off the groomed areas. Only HBK and Belt were open and only the quad was running on the main hill (no B,D,F). Luckily there was a fairly light crowd - half the parking lot has not been plowed yet. Conditions on Hgate were good, a bit rutty & variable, midstation was chunky and rutty and Kennedy was a bit rough with chunks, compression dips, ruts etc. but overall a good base. Belt had the best powder and most consistent terrain although there were washboards on the long runout to the lift. Snow making was in effect on the 2 eastside trails and on Wayout. It is mostly cloudy with some flat light & temps are in the low 30's - the wind was only strong at the top of the quad and down the first section of the Belt. Once the temp drops tonight they should be able to make a dry powder over what is there now. Consumer demo days this weekend - expect a crowd!
Feels real good to finally get the season started. http://hunterskiscene.blogspot.com/
